This season has seen our great club celebrate its 40th anniversary since reformation. A series of events to mark this occasion are taking place all year.
Our club was reformed in 1980 and has experienced many successes since. November 2019 saw a hugely successful 40th anniversary dinner that was attended by players from all decades. Many of them played important roles in securing some famous victories including winning the Yorkshire four league, the Aire-Wharf merit league, the Yorkshire Cup, the Yorkshire Shield and the Yorkshire Vase amongst many others.
Rugby Union in Ossett
Both our male teams play competitive rugby – our 1st XV in Yorkshire 3, and our 2nd XV in the Yorkshire Merit League, whilst our ladies team currently play development rugby. The season runs August to April, with social events running throughout the year. We’re always happy to see new faces, players and non-players alike. We had a great year in 2019 and 2020 looks set to continue and perhaps even better that trend. Here is a snap shot of our most recent successes:
- 2019 1st XV promoted
- 2019 2nd XV finished 3rd in their league
- Veterans won trophy in Jersey super 10’s
- Ladies win their first game and announce girls U13's to be formed in 2020
- Hosted charity game against MFG School in memory of Daz Huntington , raising over £2,800 for the Rugby League Benevolent Fund
- 10th year of preparing and cooking the York House Christmas Lunch
- Charity auction raising over £600 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Will’s Way
- Donated proceeds of raffle to Knottingley RUFC in lieu of their stolen Christmas fund
Perhaps our most enviable achievement is having our own beer brewed exclusively for us. In partnership with our main sponsors Ossett Brewery we launched the #oneclub beer in commemoration of our 40th year celebrations.
